About The Owners

The Teahouse, a beloved retreat that has been rejuvenated and restored to its old splendor, thanks to the unwavering commitment and foundational support of long time co-founders Jake and Sandra Mendel, whose dedication and tireless endeavors have managed to revitalize The Teahouse ensuring that it not only survived tumultuous times but also thrived. The Mendel's are proud to witness their legacy being carried forth under the diligent operations managed by their son, Max Mendel.

About The Team

Chef Martin Blanco points out the connection between Spanish influences in his native Philippines (more than 300 years a Spanish colony) and New Mexico. Add to that is his Japanese cooking at Santa Fe's acclaimed Izanami at Ten Thousand Waves under Chef David Padberg, and Mampuku Ramen as their pioneer Executive Chef. The result is a delicious combination in what he calls  “Neo Asian-American cuisine.”

While injecting innovative flavors and culinary techniques, most Teahouse favorites are still on the menu, says Manager Monica Walsh. She began her Santa Fe restaurant career managing at the legendary El Farol and has worked behind the scenes of The Teahouse since 2020. Recognizing a niche yet unserved, the combined knowledge of tea with the opportunities of e-commerce, thereby started the teahouse online store.

Food and Beverage Manager Stephen Walsh is in charge of procuring the freshest ingredients – locally whenever possible. He started his restaurant career at age 18 in the back of El Farol's kitchen and says “you name it, I've done it in the kitchen”. He uses that from-the-ground-up knowledge to further Chef Blanco's vision.

The team has demonstrated a profound respect for tradition coupled with a fresh entrepreneurial spirit and passionate culinary effort that has been a pivotal in infusing life back into this cherished establishment's vibrant atmosphere and genuine hospitality that have become synonymous with The Teahouse's unique charm.
